Jackson-Pratt (JP) Drain Log
💫 Captain's log... parotid date... no, let's not do that. This log tracks daily accumulation of serosanguineous fluid from a Jackson-Pratt (JP) Drain following a parotidectomy to remove tissue from the parotid, submandibular, and lymph node for biopsy. It includes data for the left parotid for surgeries in 2015 and 2026. Data for the right (2016) surgery was not kept. The drain was cleaned with alcohol each time, and the wound kept uncovered and clean. Daily output of less than 25mL is considered appropriate for drain removal, and it seems logical that the timing of this event would vary based on the procedure. This log aims to help pinpoint this event. Interestingly, the trend of increased followed by decreased drainage is consistent between surgeries, however the second surgery has overall decreased total output by a scale of about 2x.
