I found a fake restaurant called the swan and mallard, and found the concept immensely beautiful. I appreciate the metaphor of darkness and light, and I also appreciate thoughtful design that creates identity with empty space. I made my own variant, and a small poem to accompany it that reflects the sentiment it gives me.
Swan and Mallard
Swan and mallard, an unlikely pair
One a shadow, one light and fair
Defined by darkness, hiding in sight
Revealed by connection, embraced in light
It is romantic, but not necessarily in the way you first intuit. It could be about two people, but it also could be about two pieces of the self. It might say that comfort and safety comes from acceptance and embrace of both the dark and the light. It might also say that our greatest fears of not being accepted, based in what we see as our darkness, draws the light to us. A third interpretation I like is that both concepts cannot exist without the other. Shadow cannot exist, conceptually, without light.
